Spencer Abraham named top rookie in the OUA East

Posted: March 5th, 2015 @ 9:42pm

For the second year in a row, the Queen’s Golden Gaels have the outstanding freshman hockey player in the East division of Ontario University Athletics.

Spencer Abraham, a first-year arts and science student from Campbellville, Ont., has been named not only the division’s top rookie, but also its outstanding defenceman. He’s a first-team division all-star, and a member of the division’s all-rookie team.

After being named the division’s top rookie last year, Gaels goaltender Kevin Bailie won the the 2014 Clare Drake Award as national rookie of the year.

Abraham, who played four years in the Ontario Hockey League with Brampton and Erie, led his team in scoring with 28 points (five goals and 23 assists). He was the league’s scoring leader among defencemen, and he was involved in 32 per cent of his team’s 88 goals.

Gaels centre Darcy Greenaway, the top goal-scoring rookie in Canada with 16 in 25 games, was named to the second all-star team, and he’s also a member of the all-rookie team.

Former Kingston Frontenacs defenceman Mike Moffat, who played this year for the Waterloo Warriors, was named to the West division’s all-rookie team.
