Neither the prospect of playing a regional champion on its home pitch, nor playing under the lights, bothered the Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers Wednesday as they continued their girls rugby tour of Ireland.

The Panthers, with two tries by Courtney Spratt, defeated Railway Union RFC 39-5 in Dublin.

It was Regi’s second win in a three-game series that concludes Saturday in Wicklow.

Facing the Leinster League champion—a team that hadn’t lost a game in more than a year—Regi came out hitting the rucks and tackling hard, coach Alana Ramsay wrote in an email, and took a 19-5 lead in the first half.

“Evelyn LeBlancq made key tackles and runs throughout the game,” Ramsay continued, “and the hard work done at the rucks by all the forwards set up (our) tries.”

Tries by Hannah Greenwood, Spratt and Mackenzie Steacy, two of which were converted by Annie Kennedy, gave the Panthers a 19-0 lead. Railway Union scored its lone try late in the first half.

Regi kept it up in the second half, “dominating the rucks and spinning the ball wide to the backs,” Ramsay wrote, “who were firing on all cylinders.” Tries by Lilly Dickson, LeBlancq and Spratt and another convert by Kennedy completed the scoring.

Kennedy was named player of the match and LeBlancq the hardest worker by the Railway Union club.
