Kings ex-Pats waving the lacrosse flag in the U.S.

Posted: April 16th, 2015 @ 12:36am

There may be no junior lacrosse in Kingston this summer, but four graduates of the Kingston Kings are playing the field lacrosse this spring in programs in the U.S.

Kyle Aylesworth, in his third season with the Fighting Scots of Ohio Valley University in Vienna, Va., is second on the team with 19 goals in 11 games. He had two goals and an assist in a 16-4 loss to Mercyhurst on Friday, as the Scots fell to 0-11 on the season.

Aylesworth, who graduated as the sixth-leading scorer in Kingston junior lacrosse history, is one of just five juniors on a team whose roster includes only one senior but eight freshmen among its 19 members. The Frontenac Secondary School grad has accounted for more than a quarter of Ohio Valley’s 76 goals to date. His best game this year was a four-goal performance against Lynn in March.

At Division I Robert Morris in Pittsburgh, where the Colonials are 2-10, sophomore Alec Johnston has played in five games, but is still looking for his first point.

At the University of Mount Union, in Alliance, Ohio, Nick Silva has played one game so far in his freshman season with the varsity Purple Raiders, who are 4-8 overall, and 1-3 in Division III Ohio Athletic Conference play. Silva, a Sydenham High School grad from Verona, is an athletic-training major.

Johnston’s younger brother, Stu, is playing varsity prep school lacrosse at Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana. It’s Johnston’s second year at Culver, and the team is off to a 3-0 start.
