The ranks of the undefeated in high school senior girls soccer was cut in half Wednesday.

Holy Cross Crusaders maintained their grip on first place with their fourth straight win, 5-0 over the previously unbeaten Loyalist Lancers. The Kingston Blues, also without a loss before play began, fell 2-0 to the Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers, who emerged from a three-team logjam with sole possession of second place at 3-0.

The outcomes go a long way to setting up a showdown for first place Monday, May 11, when the Panthers and Crusaders meet on the final day of the regular year at Miklas-McCarney Field.

Playing at Holy Cross, the Lancers slipped to 2-1 as four different players scored for the Crusaders. Jenna Whalen, with two, Donya Hojabr, Marilyn Doherty and Ashley MacDonald got the goals for Holy Cross, which has now allowed just one goal in four games this year.

Kristina Nuvoloni was flawless in goal and her first shutout of the season made a goal in the opening minute by Jennifer Cowan stand up as the winner at Brother O’Gara Field. Bridget Mulholland scored Regi’s other goal in the second half.

In another Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association game Wednesday, Olivia Pearson scored three goals to lead the La Salle Black Knights to a 5-0 over the Napanee Golden Hawks. Playing at La Salle, the Knights joined KC and Loyalist in the fray for third place at 2-1.
