Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers claimed first place in high school senior girls soccer play Monday, with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over the Holy Cross Crusaders on the final day of the regular season.

Playing at Miklas-McCarney Field, the Panthers quickly answered an opening goal by Jenna Whalen of Holy Cross with a penalty kick by Kaitlyn Balfour after Regi’s Aileen O’Sullivan was hauled down in the box.

Bridget Mulholland’s header of a Balfour corner kick provided the go-ahead goal as the Panthers put the finishing touches on a 6-0 season.

Holy Cross finished second at 5-1, tied with the Kingston Blues, but the Crusaders will get the No. 2 seed for the playoffs, based on KASSAA’s tie-breaking formula that involves cumulative records over the past three seasons.

The same formula will give Frontenac the nod for fourth place over Loyalist, after the Falcons climbed into a tie at 4-2 with their 1-0 victory Monday over the La Salle Black Knights.

Elsewhere in the Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association, the Ernestown Eagles defeated the Granite Ridge Gryphons 3-0 and the Sydenham Golden Eagles claimed the eighth and final playoff spot with a 7-1 win over the Napanee Golden Hawks, a team with which the Golden Eagles began the day tied at 1-4.

Playing at Odessa, the Eagles got goals from Taylor Huff, Dana Fallis and Ashley McQuay. Ellie Hudson and Sadi Grant shared the shutout.

In Wednesday’s quarter-finals, Sydenham will visit Regi, Holy Cross will host Ernestown, La Salle will meet KC and Frontenac will entertain Loyalist.
