Ten local athletes won events Sunday at the Royal Canadian Legion District G track and field championships at Caraco Field.

Among them, Cole Horsman of the Kingston Track and Field Club was the sole two-event winner, leading the field in both the 100 metres (11.53 seconds) and 200 metres (22.92 seconds) for competitors under the age of 16.

Hailey Wolfgram won girls under-18 shot put with a best attempt of 13.17 metres, almost three metres ahead of the field. It was a season-best performance for Wolfgram, who was fifth at the national Legion championship last year at 12.48 metres.

Other winners Sunday from the Kingston Track and Field Club were Clare Stafford (girls under-16 80-metre hurdles, 13.39 seconds); Amanda Black (girls under-18 high jump, 1.55 metres); Marissa Battle (girls under-18 200 metres, 25.84 seconds), Kay Byers-Richards (girls under-18 pole vault, 1.85 metres) and Mavrick Snider (boys under-18 triple jump, 12.34 metres).

Emmett Bravakis of the Kingston Achilles club won boys under-16 300 metres in 38.08 seconds, and Sarah Bell, running for Quinte Track and Field Club, won girls under-16 100 metres in 12.98 seconds.

Competing as an unaffiliated runner, Anna Workman won girls under-16 800 metres. Just 13, Workman won the race in 2 minutes 26.44 seconds, almost eight seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

Sunday’s meet, held in wet, dreary conditions, was the first in a series of meets leading to the Canadian Legion championships in St-Therese, Que., in August. Athletes at the district level had to win their event to be eligible to advance to next weekend’s provincial Legion meet in London.
