Posted: July 16th, 2015 @ 10:24pm

Kingston’s Danielle Boyd had her best finish of the Pan American Games sailing regatta Thursday, a third in her first race of the day, but she and skipper Erin Rafuse of Halifax remain sixth overall after 11 races in women’s 49er FX competition.

Boyd and Rafuse were also sixth and fourth in Thursday’s other races, two of which were won by Brazil’s Martine Soffiatti Grael, who moved into second place overall.

Soffiatti Grael has 29 points, 10 behind fleet leader Victoria Travascio, going into the final day of preliminary competition Friday, when four races are scheduled.

Elsehwere on Lake Ontario Thursday, Terry McLaughlin was second, fifth and fourth in three open J-24 races. He remains second overall with 24 points, nine behind Matias Pereira of Argentina, who won two of Thursday’s three races.

Matias Seguel of Chile, who won Thursday’s other race, stands third with 31 points.

In open Snipe racing, Evert McLaughlin remains fifth in the 10-boat fleet after finishing fifth, sixth and seventh Thursday. With 47 points, he stands 17 points out of a medal position going into the final day of racing Friday.

Raul Rios de Choudens won two of Thursday’s three races—winning five in a row at one point—to stand first with 15 points.

Both the Snipe and J-24 fleets are scheduled for two races Friday, and a medal race Sunday.
