Rebecca Huffman scored 10 points to lead the Bayridge Blazers to a 43-13 win over the Napanee Golden Hawks Thursday on the final day of the Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association senior girls basketball season.

The win, the second in three days for Bayridge, left the Blazers in a three-team tie for fifth place in the league standings, a deadlock at 4-5 that, when broken, left the Frontenac Falcons fifth, Bayridge sixth and the Kingston Blues seventh.

(In the games among the three tied teams, each team won once; Frontenac was a 17-point victor over Bayridge, KC beat Frontenac by two points and Bayridge, on Monday, beat the Blues by one point in overtime.)

That means the Falcons, who will play a quarter-final match Tuesday against Sydenham, and Bayridge, who will face third-place La Salle, managed to avoid the top two teams in the first round of playoffs. KC, meanwhile, will have to face the Holy Cross Crusaders, who finished second at 8-1.

Undefeated regular-season champion Regiopolis Notre Dame will host the Loyalist Lancers in Tuesday’s other quarter-final.

In other games Thursday, Sydenham defeated Loyalist 59-31 at LC, while Holy Cross pinned a 41-8 defeat on the Ernestown Eagles.

The regular year ended without an upset of any magnitude, as Regi beat everyone, Holy Cross beat everyone but Regi, La Salle, 7-2, lost only to Regi and Holy Cross and Sydenham, 6-3, beat everyone but the top three teams.

If there’s a dark horse going into post-season play, it might be KC, which, despite finishing a game below .500, won three of its last five, after a 1-3 start. Most of those games were close, as the Blues won by a point, lost in overtime and won by two points in their penultimate game Wednesday at Frontenac.
