Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers and Kingston Blues each posted a pair of victories Thursday on the opening day of their respective Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations boys volleyball championships.

At the AAA tournament in Windsor, Regi, the defending OFSAA champion and No. 9 seed, posted straight-sets victories over Kitchener Forest Heights, the tournaent's eighth seed (25-17, 25-22) and 19th-seeded West Ferris of North Bay (25-11, 25-14).

Friday, Regi concludes its preliminary round robin with matches against No. 3 St. Michael’s of Toronto and Waterdown. St. Mike’s was 3-0 in Thursday play, while Waterdown emerged 1-1. Forest Heights and West Ferris both went back to their hotels without a victory.

Holy Cross Crusaders were winless in their two matches at the same tournament. The 17th-seeded Crusaders bowed 2-0 to No. 4 Mississauga (25-16, 27-25) and No. 10 Jacob Hespeler of Cambridge (25-13, 25-14). Today, Holy Cross has dates with Chatham-Kent and Longfields-Davidson of Ottawa.

At the double-A tournament in Kenora, KC dropped its first match in straight sets to No. 2 seeded St. Catharines Eden. Winner of eight consecutive OFSAA titles, 2006-13, Eden defeated the Blues 25-16, 25-18.

KC rebounded smartly with back-to-back 2-1 victories over St. Joseph of Windsor (25-22, 20-25, 15-6) and Garth Webb of Oakville, in a match where the Blues fought back to prevail 19-25, 25-23, 17-15.

Eden leads the pool with a 3-0 opening day mark, and the fifth-seeded Blues can clinch a berth in the quarter-finals with a win Friday morning against Applewood Heights of Mississauga. The tournament’s No. 18 seed, Applewood was winless in two preliminary matches Thursday.
