Regi loses twice on final day of OFSAA

Posted: November 28th, 2015 @ 7:27pm

Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers lost just two senior boys volleyball matches all season. Unfortunately, they both came on the final day at OFSAA.

Losers of just two sets in 19 league and playoff matches going into the semifinals of the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations AAA championship tournament in Windsor, the Panthers were beaten 3-0 by Scarborough Agincourt on Saturday morning. They then bowed in straight sets to St. Michael’s of Toronto in the bronze medal match Saturday afternoon.

Regi has been in the provincial championship event each of the last 11 years. This is the first time during that stretch the Panthers, four-time and defending OFSAA champions, have not come home with a medal.

Regi ended the tournament 5-2.

Agincourt went on to defeat Mississauga 3-2 in the gold medal match.

At the AA tournament in Kenora, the Kingston Blues were eliminated in the quarter-finals Friday night, losing 3-2 to Saugeen, 21-25, 25-22, 25-23, 21-25, 15-9.

Saugeen went on to lose the bronze medal match Saturday to Sudbury Lasalle.

KC was 3-2 overall.
