Today in Kingston junior hockey playoff history

Posted: March 25th, 2013 @ 8:13am

Today's installment in a daily feature that looks back at this date in Kingston junior hockey playoff history.

Sunday, March 25, 1990

In a superstitious fan's nightmare, Kingston rebounded from an ugly 7-0 defeat the night before to claim a 7-4 win over the Belleville Bulls and a 3-2 lead in their best-of-seven first-round series. It was the 13th straight home win for Kingston and the 13th straight road defeat for Belleville.

Three times Kingston, playing without suspended captain John Nelson, took a one-goal lead only to have the Bulls come back to tie the score. The Frontenacs finally put the game away with three goals in the last eight minutes of the third period.

Nelson, the Frontenacs' power-play catalyst and resident pest, was suspended by the league for spearing Belleville's talented but similarly yappy Rob Pearson.

Justin Morrison had a goal and two assists for the Frontenacs. Mike Bodnarchuk had two goals, while Tony Iob, Bob McKillop and Tony Cimellaro scored once each for Kingston.
