Today in Kingston junior hockey playoff history

Posted: April 5th, 2013 @ 12:17pm

Today's installment in a daily feature that looks back at this date in Kingston junior hockey playoff history.

Friday, April 5, 1975

Kingston Canadians put the Toronto Marlboros on the brink of elimination before a packed house of 4,246 fans at the Memorial, scoring three third-period goals for a 5-3 win and a 7-5 lead in the eight point quarter-final series.

Greg Hotham, Tony McKegney and Barry Scully score for Kingston in the third period. Hotham, a defenceman, was playing right wing in place of injured 56-goal scorer Mike Crombeen.

Defencemen Michel Blais and Mike O'Connell scored first-period goals to give Kingston a 2-0 lead before Toronto came back to tie the game early in the second period. Mark Napier, who scored two goals for the third game in a row, and Lynn Jorgenson scored for Marlboros.

Though the Marlboros outshot the home team over the opening 40 minutes, the brilliant goaltending of Jim Weaver, Art Wright wrote in the Whig-Standard, kept the score tied 2-2 heading into the third period.
