Despite a stirring third-period comeback, the Oshawa Generals force a sixth game in their Ontario Hockey League quarter-final series with a 5-3 win over the Kingston Frontenacs at the Memorial Centre.
The Frontenacs trailed 4-0 after two periods but climbed back to 4-3 with less than four minutes to play. Kingston lifted goaltender Tyler Moss for a sixth skater with a minute to play but Oshawa's B.J. MacPherson scored his second goal of the game, into an empty net, with 10 seconds left, to clinch the Generals' victory.
Playing before a crowd of 3,300, the Frontenacs were 0-for-10 with a man advantage as Oshawa cut Kingston's lead in the best-of-seven series to 3-2.
Steve Parson scored twice in Kingston's valiant comeback bid and he set up the other goal, by Jason Wadel. Oshawa led 1-0 after the first period and power-play goals by Scott Hollis and Sean Brown, just 71 seconds apart in the middle of the second period, gave the Generals a four-goal lead.
For Hollis, a Kingston native, it was his second goal of the game and his eighth of the playoffs.
