Roster taking shape for junior lacrosse campaign
Posted: May 2nd, 2013 @ 11:02pm
Three more players have signed to play the 2013 Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League season for the Kingston Kings, the local club has announced.
Veteran Cole Byvelds, Austin Maracle and newcomer Kaleb Bingley bring to 14 the number of players carded for a season that will begin next Thursday.
Byvelds, 19, just completed his first year at McGill University, where was studying engineering and played on the university volleyball team. He's beginning his third year with the Kings. He travelled from Montreal to play the Kings' two weekend exhibition games.
"Cole is an all-around athlete, and leads clearly by example," Kings coach Mike Dube said. "The Kings are happy to sign Cole as a defensive stalwart, but he will have the green light to take the ball into the offensive zone when opportunities arise."
Bingley, 16, was a late cut from the Nepean Knights junior B club. A first-year junior, he lives in Perth.
"Kaleb is a young player who has a great raw talent for lacrosse," Dube said. "He's a hard-nosed guy that isn't afraid to work hard every night. He will be a valuable asset to our team."
Though this is his first year as a junior, Austin Maracle, 17, has played a dozen games for the Kings over the past two seasons, scoring twice. He's one of seven players in the Kings' camp from Tyendinaga.
"Austin is a sound fundamental player who plays a focused and efficient game," Dube said. "We will use Austin as a utility player, both on offence and defence."
The Kings will begin the season May 9, when they host the Gloucester Griffins at Centre 70. Game time is 8 p.m. Related Articles:
