Kings rally to gain tie with Brockville

Kingston Kings twice came from behind Thursday night to gain an 8-8 tie with the Brockville Ballistic in Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League play at Centre 70.
On Alumni Night, the Kings surrendered four unanswered goals in the second period to fall behind 7-3, then got them all back in the third to tie the game 7-7 by the end of regulation time. After Brockville's Deven Primeau scored the first goal of overtime two minutes in, Josh Smith replied for the Kings with the game's final goal at 4:22 of the 10-minute period.
Ballistic goaltender Colin Halladay stole the point for Brockville, as he faced 85 shots, including 30 in a first period that ended in a 3-3 draw. Kingston outshot the visitors 14-4 in overtime. David Joseph made 41 saves in the Kingston goal.
Smith finished the game with three goals and two assists for the Kings. He scored the opening goal of the third period to ignite the Kingston comeback and he assisted on two of the other third-period goals. Kyle Aylesworth scored Kingston's first two goals, giving him 18 in nine games, while Haneh Brant, Jay Waller and Zach Masterson scored once each.
Todd Fawcett led all scorers in the losing cause, with three goals and three assists. Cory Robertson, with two, Jarret Pitt and Travis Cole, with his first goal of the year, also scored for the Ballistic.
Kingston, which has lost just one of its last five games, remains a .500 club for the year at 4-4-1, good for third place, two points ahead of idle Peterborough. Brockville, 1-5-1, moved into a tie with fifth-place Whitby, though the Warriors have three games in hand.
The Kings resume play next Wednesday at Whitby, and they return home June 20 to face the Peterborough Lakers.
